Three generations of women embark on a journey to the grave of their great grandfather who fell in World War II in Poland. A road movie where each of them searches for her roots and self-identity in multinational Kazakhstan and beyond. Along the way, grandmother, daughter, and granddaughter visit the house that no longer belongs to them in Kazan, Tatarstan. All three of them were born in that country, but it’s no longer sovereign. Together they find the grave of the man who brings the three of them together. It’s an intimate story, but it’s also a story about all of us.

INTERESTING FACTS
The movie was filmed in three countries: Kazakhstan, Russia (Tatarstan) and Poland. For one of the protagonists, Lyabiba Sermukhamedova, this was the first trip to Europe and her first Schengen at the age of 85.
During the filming of the movie, 12,000 kilometers were covered by 7 planes, one bus, and dozens of cabs. Filming lasted a little over a month. During this time, more than 40 hours of footage was shot.
Our director Alina Mustafina managed to raise about 7,000,000 KZT ($ 15,000) for the production of the film through her Instagram blog.
Our DP, Alexey Elagin, is a BAFTA award winner.
